It used to be that children were engaged in physical activities outside the home that would instill in them a healthy appreciation for Mother Nature. Growing up, it seemed I spent most of my time riding my bicycle. My family went camping together. We loved spending the day hiking. We learned to ride horses. We went sledding in the winter and swimming in the summer. My parents were avid gardeners. I spent time pulling weeds, planting seeds and picking vegetables.

Today, it's rare to see a child on a bicycle in our neighborhood. It seems we're staying indoors more and spending less and less time connecting with nature.

So, I'm not convinced that indoor gaming as a means of exercise is a healthy alternative. It seems disingenuous. Fake. We're out-of-shape because of our sedentary lifestyle, our overworked brains, and our dependency on technology. Today, we expect science to solve all our problems. We want technology to extend our lives and decrease our waistlines. We're afraid of the sun. We have allergies. The water is polluted. The lawns treated with pesticides. We eat chemically-laden, processed foods and listen to "expert" advice on how to live a healthy lifestyle. We jump off the sofa long enough to stand on a piece of plastic and stare a screen with an animated scene in an effort to lose some weight.

We never have to leave home again.

Happy Blogging!

I was watching "What the Bleep Do We Know? I am fascinated by ways in which technology and awareness of the intricate web of life intersect. I enjoy participative projects, such as Learn 2.1, as I feel these are opportunities to reaffirm the quantum reality of this world.
